EXPLORE

Every great safari begins with a single conversation. Whenever you’re ready, we’re here.

See Africa the way we see it, through the eyes of people who never stopped looking.

We only work in wild places we’re committed to protecting. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Honest answers to the questions worth asking before you go.

Helicopter Safari

Some African landscapes only reveal themselves properly from the air. The braided channels of the Okavango. The red geometry of Namibia. The broken escarpments of northern Kenya. The long pull of the Zambezi before it falls.

THE HELICOPTER SAFARI EXPERIENCE

For the right itinerary, a helicopter can be one of the most practical decisions we make. It removes a long transfer, opens up terrain that is genuinely difficult to reach any other way, or gives you the aerial context that makes everything you do on the ground afterwards feel more considered. We use them when they earn their place, and leave them out when they don’t.

Some landscapes simply read better from above. The Okavango Delta’s channels and floodplains, the geometry of the Namib dunes, the lava fields and river valleys of northern Kenya: these are places where an hour in the air changes how you understand what you’re looking at. That understanding doesn’t disappear when you land. It stays with you through every game drive and boat trip that follows.

We know the destinations, the operators, the routings and the seasons well enough to know when a helicopter genuinely improves a trip and when it doesn’t. Every helicopter safari we plan reflects where it works, when to include it, and how it fits within a wider itinerary that has been built around you.

Why add a scenic helicopter flight?

First, it gives context. The ground tells you what is in front of you. The air shows you why it is there. You begin to understand how river, escarpment, floodplain, pan or forest edge shape the wildlife and the feel of a place.

Second, it improves the flow of the journey. For many of our guests, the real luxury is not excess. It is time used well. A helicopter can return hours to the trip, allowing the safari to feel more spacious and less administrative.

Third, it changes perspective without changing tone. The best helicopter flights feel calm, not performative. They widen the experience. They do not shout over it.

Our approach to helicopter safaris

A good helicopter safari should never feel careless. We only work with operators we trust completely: pilots with real local hours, strong safety cultures and the judgement to know when not to fly. Just as importantly, we use helicopters that are right for the terrain, the weather, the range and the experience itself.

We also use them responsibly. The point is not to turn wildlife into theatre or chase movement from the air for effect. It is to read the land better, move more intelligently and, where it genuinely adds value, see Africa from a perspective that deepens what follows on the ground. As with all our travel, the test is simple: does it deepen the trip without cheapening the place?
