Hunter-gatherers – like the Ju/’Hoansi, Kxoe and the Kung – have travelled across the vast plains of Southern Africa for thousands of years. The San have resided in Namibia for more than 6,000 years, and there is more than enough rock art to confirm this.

Namibia has some of the highest sand dunes in the world

The tallest dune in the Sossusvlei region is Big Daddy. Between Sossusvlei and Deadvlei lies this huge dune, which dwarfs the other dunes at 325 meters.

World’s most extensive meteorite shower

The Gibeon meteorite shower is the largest known meteorite shower on Earth, covering a wide elliptical area of some 275 by 100 kilometres, centred on Brukkaros south of Mariental.

Damaraland, a unique and scenic region located in northwestern Namibia, experiences a semi-arid climate with two main seasons:

Wet Season (November to April): The wet season, also known as the “Green Season,” is characterized by higher temperatures, increased humidity, and occasional rainfall. Daytime temperatures typically range from 86°F to 95°F (30°C to 35°C) but can sometimes exceed 104°F (40°C). The rains bring life to the otherwise arid landscape, turning it into a more verdant environment. Wildlife may be more dispersed during this period due to the abundance of water sources. The wet season is also an excellent time for birdwatching, as migratory birds visit the region.

Dry Season (May to October): The dry season in Damaraland features cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and little to no rainfall. Daytime temperatures usually range between 68°F and 86°F (20°C to 30°C), while nighttime temperatures can drop to 41°F (5°C) or lower, especially during the colder months of June and July.
